If you haven’t been to a play at the Cinnabar Theater right here in Petaluma, now is the time to make plans to see Time Stands Still which opens on April 1. This is not an April Fool’s Day Joke. Seriously.
One of the masters of contemporary American theater, Donald Margulies’ play speaks about the essence of relationships. Sarah, a photojournalist is recuperating from a tour in the Middle East, and James, a foreign correspondent is seeking a change of venue. They move from telling tough stories about the world at large, colliding with the stories they have to tell about themselves and their relationship to work and to each other.
Time Stands Still premiered in 2009 at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles; The Los Angeles Times called it a “compelling if at times elusive drama”. The play premiered on Broadway at the Samuel Friedman Theatre in 2010. The New York Times wrote: “the heart of Time Stands Still lies in the gently evolving relationship between James and Sarah, which develops troubling new ripples in each scene.”
